When I ask my makeup artists friends and people I work with “what is the one thing I can do for my skin that will make it look it’s best?” they all same the same thing – “drink loads of water”. I’m always surprised when I hear them say this. But according to some of the top makeup artists in the field there is not one magic cream, lotion or treatment that can do even half as much for the look of your skin as drinking between 2-3 liters of water a day. From curing chapped lips to plumping your skin, drinking enough water will give your skin that beautiful healthy glow from the inside out.
So now we all know we should drink more water than we probably do, but did you know how much better water is for you with a splash of lemon in it? No? Neither did I. Here’s what I’ve learned:
The practice of drinking lemon water has its origin in Traditional Chinese Medicine that relies on nature’s produce to prevent and treat health problems. Lemons are simply amazing, containing huge amounts of nutrients such as Vitamin C, magnesium, potassium and calcium – and here’s a shock – lemon’s acidity actually turns to alkaline as soon as it hits your digestive system, that’s excellent news for your gut. The more alkaline or non acidic our diets are the less susceptible we are to disease, sickness and numerous other health problems.
While lemon water can be a part of your day at any time, many swear by the tremendous benefits of drinking lemon water first thing in the morning. During the night our body is on a fast while you are sleeping and is in a mild state of dehydration when you awake. Unlike coffee, which is loaded with the diuretic caffeine and highly acidic, lemon water can re-hydrate your body, plump up your skin, reduce fine lines and brighten your eyes within just a few minutes of drinking it.
